The female body, drawn large

(image from here)
There's an exhibition of Jenny Saville's paintings, Ancestors is on at the Gagosian gallery in New York at present.  There is a review here, and another here, both with more images.
I find Saville's work extremely powerful, and it strikes me dumb.  Rather like my reaction to Francis Bacon's work, I have no adequate words, perhaps no adequate thoughts, ... just powerful emotions.

  1. Many thanks for the 'heads up' Olga. My husband is a huge fab of hers and I have come to appreciate her work over time. A worthy successor to Francis Bacon now

    1. Hi Jenny. There is so much complexity in her work - I find it both overwhelming and rewarding.

  3. I feel exactly the same, Olga - I cannot find the words to express the awe that her work inspires. One of the greats...

    1. And it is fascinating to see where she is going. I hope that we in the UK will have a chance soon to see this new series.

  4. I find that I appear to share your taste in art, Olga. You introduced my to that beguiling artist, Robin Philipson as well as Peter Sachs. We saw the latter's recent exhibition and we both felt that some of the works were too cluttered. The ones where he had allowed 'breathing space' were much more successful.

    1. Jenny, I'm interested that you enjoy some of the artists I have mentioned. I can still clearly remember the joy I derived from the small Philipson I saw this January.
