Leapt out on a flick through

The Munch catalogue from the current British Museum exhibition, Edvard Munch: love and angst arrived in the post today.  I have only managed a quick flick through the pages.  It looks interesting and comprehensive - yet, the image which stopped me in my tracks is by Vuillard.  I had not encountered it before, but it leapt out at me, and I love it.

  1. A new image to me as well as a new artist. I like this very much too.

    1. Should add, it's that read outlining, isn't it, as well as the pose.

    2. Yes, Sheila, the red, and the light on his face, and the intensity of his focus, I find are all compelling. Vuillard is one of my favourite artists. I admire the way that he captures body language, intimacy, showing the beauty in the everyday.... His use of light, colour, pattern make his work have both depth and be flat somehow at the same time. Rather like woodblock.
