Love the quote - agree with the article

Creativity in all its forms is a passionate engagement with making something happen.

This sentence near the beginning of Jeanette Winterson's article in today's Guardian Newspaper's Culture section struck me as such a positive affirmation.  I found myself agreeing with the whole article.

  1. I agree, Olga. It's a great article, covering not just the Whitworth, but also why and how art affects us, why we need art, and why cuts in arts funding is a disaster. I also liked her analysis of Cornelia Parker's The Kiss. Refreshing and a pleasure to read.

  3. What a great quote ... I especially like the notion of passionate engagement. I feel that every day when I pick up a pencil or a needle and cloth. It's a great way to spend my days!

  4. This was my favorite quotation from the article. It makes me understand a bit better my role in all this as an artist, an elevation I had not thought of, at least not in these words.

"Visual artists do the looking on our behalf in the same way as religious orders used to pray on our behalf."

Also interesting the belief in the importance of public space as more of the population may be losing the ability to secure their own private space. And that pools and sports fields are not enough public space...we need art and education as well! A very good read.
