  4. Thank very much - all of you. I was not feeling sad at all, simply contemplating the different qualities of the greys of January, and took elements from my existing files to make this. The figure is a blind drawing of mine that always speaks to me of listening to music. The squares are tests I did of all the grey coloured pencils I have, and mixes of them - so the words underneath each square are notes of that. The branch is simply a scribble I did while waiting for something or someone at some point, and I scanned it and inverted it for this design.

  5. How very gentle and contemplative this is. I'm most intrigued by your explanation above of the origin of the squares. They suggest a different sort of thinking ...

  6. Now I'm intrigued ... a different sort of thinking?? I certainly made the squares many years ago, and while I was in the final throes of my publishing career.
