Suddenly it is hot and sunny

and I would love to be able to dip my bare feet into the tumbling peaty chill of the River Muick, near Ballater in Aberdeenshire - something I would not have considered at all on the day we were there just a fortnight ago.

  1. I can't believe how close you were to our regular haunts! We visited Ballater 2 weeks ago.
Did you make it up the valley of glen Muick to the loch at the foot of Lochnagar - a stunning wilderness of a place? Most dramatically seen on a winter's day in lightly drifting snow ... but from the warmth and safety of a car, and best to make a quick retreat!

  2. Yes, we did. It is a wondrous place where all the folks from the car park just disappear into the landscape. My knackered knees mean that I move quite slowly, but it was just stunning being alone out there.

  3. So glad you saw it - it's one of my favourite wild places (perhaps those in the car park feel the same), and always there's a hint of threat, even on a sunny summer day. You trifle with those mountains at your peril ...
