Kara Walker: The Daily Constitution 1878 (2011)
I immediately thought of Goya's The Disasters of War prints. I must admit that that had not occurred to me when I saw the last day of her exhibition Kara Walker: My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor, My Love at the Musee d'art moderne de la ville de Paris in 2007. I was thinking more about the connection of the silhouette form with children's picture books, comic strips, and how much we have actually permitted in that latter medium that we would exclude from the former. But I was gratified just now in looking up more links to find that Adrian Searle, also of the Guardian, online, has also seen a connection with Goya - with his Caprichos, which is nearer the mark.
