Big blossoms have never really been my favourites. I prefer the initially almost insignificant flowers on plants - the ones that delight with their complexity once one gets up close. The only big flowers I thoroughly admire are those of Georgia O'Keeffe, which contain whole landscapes.
As I get older, I find that I am drawn increasingly to the flowers of grasses - how many there are, and how they change with time and light! These were caught in the sun on the bank of the Whiteadder, in the Scottish Borders at the end of last month.
