This is the provisional title and cover design for a forthcoming book from d4daisy, and which will include my work. I am delighted to be participating in this publication, with five excellent and diverse textile artists - but also because the project arrived just when I needed it.
I first started exploring printmaking just over two years ago, and the learning has given me great joy. It has not only provided me with a huge area of investigation (I love researching) of techniques, history, and practitioners, (and an excuse to buy more books!), but has also given me new ways of exploring image making and self expression.
I had reached a point when I wanted to take the printmaking into my textile work. Of course I have been printing onto fabric from the start, either with heat transfer or direct printing. The traditional printmaking gave me an opportunity to broaden my approach to image origination. I still manipulate on the computer, still print onto cloth, and I still stitch - but I am now taking each a little further. I also have reached a point in my life when I find myself exploring even ideas themselves further.
At just the right moment Maggie Grey asked if I would take part in this book, thus giving me a push to put my thinking into practice, and also providing me with a deadline. So, I'd better get back to work!
