Something fishy ...

I have been working on a new image: Chasing fish (work in progress, above), and am feeling positive about it.  But what is it about me and fish?  They seem to surface regularly.
A grand catch
Facing the fish
Fish grey
Boisson, poisson
Flying tonight
The goldfish bowl
I have used fish in my printmaking exercises:
and I have a design on file which I have not yet had printed:
Plunge pool
Whatever the mood, the fish seem to be there with me, lurking somewhere not very far away.

It is interesting how certain images do crop up regularly in one's work. Fascinating to see these pieces together like this, your 'fish' series it seems. The symbolic meanings of fish are quite numerous, have you ever explored those? As I'm never too sure of interpratations in my own work, I like to leave the mystery and possibilties of many meanings open to the viewers own responses, as well.

Marja-Leena, I have not explored fish symbolism specifically. Doubtless there is something about them which resonates deep in my psyche, but I have neer delved there. I would not exactly call the pieces together a series; but it was interesting to 'hang' them together.

I have always felt that fish, like birds, have an extraordinary freedom. They glide, slide, zoom, in ways we clumsy humans can't. A favorite fish story was the one fish I ever caught -- it got all dusty when I brought it to shore, so I unhooked it and put it back in the water to clean it off. Whoosh -- off it slid, out of my hands and back into the lake.

I never went fishing again and, frankly, I'm glad he slid so neatly away from me. The story is better than keeping him would have been.

So I think the fish are freedom from constraint, are fast and full of motion, beautiful, elegant, made for precisely their environment, which they dominate.

for what it's worth.....

Yes, June, I like it - and I love the story of the one who left you so that you both could gain.
