Printmaking progress

We have had two sessions in this new term, and at present we are learning about collagraphs. I am really enjoying these, with the above image one I produced with a plate I made up on the spot, trying out various materials. The one below I'd prepared from home. A long time ago I was seduced by paper string, and at last I have found a use for a very small part of my stash! The line running down through the figure below's hand is it.

Other then the string, I am wondering what other materials you used to make the plate. I am also interested in the "colors" you used. I just finished a piece stitched on 3 monoprints that are all dark. Someone wanted to know if I am depressed! If you would like, you can see this piece at saramuz.blogspot.com. I always enjoy seeing what you are working on......

Sara, thanks for your comment. I have had a quick look at your blog and will definitely be back.

To make this plate I laid a sheet of paper which I had made with seeds in (did not show as much as I hoped - they are at the bottom), and two shapes (head and arm)cut out of thin card. With the paper string that's about it.

I love black as a colour, and especially on white/off white, and with another dark in the mix, such as the red. I like shades and grades. I don't think it indicates depression because I have used such colours and tones in all moods.

Olga, I find these exciting and am so pleased that you are enjoying printmaking and especially collagraphs. You first piece here reminded me right away of some of my old "crowds" series. String is still a favourtie of mine to create a rich textured, sinuous line, full of so many meanings. Wishing you coninuing pleasures in the medium.

Marja-Leena thank you. Your hemp would make interesting marks too!
